THE HBP STORY
Founded in 1978 by Harry Barker in Askam-in-Furness, the company has grown over the past four decades to become a trusted delivery partner on major infrastructure and construction projects across the North West and beyond.
Now in its third generation of family leadership, HBP Ltd continues to combine long-standing values with operational capabilities. Our management team brings together decades of industry experience and technical expertise to ensure the safe, timely, and cost-effective delivery of every project we undertake.
Our reputation is built on consistency, transparency, and a strong commitment to client satisfaction. We work in collaboration with Tier 1 contractors, local authorities, and developers delivering work packages that align with the highest standards of quality, compliance, and safety.
We are proud to maintain long-term relationships with our clients, many of whom return to us based on our reliable performance and solution-oriented approach.
Our long-standing partnerships with Tier 1 contractors, public sector organisations, and local developers reflect our honest, open and solution-driven approach.
At HBP, our aim is simple: exceed client expectations and build lasting relationships by being a dependable and proactive partner on every project.
It is our view that third-party accreditations provide a framework to drive continuous improvement, accountability, and learning across our business. Our accreditations are a reflection of the standards we operate and work towards strengthening every day.
Health and safety is integral to our business. We operate a proactive and fully embedded safety culture, supported by continuous training, clear accountability, and rigorous adherence to industry regulations. Our commitment to compliance extends across all levels of the organisation, from leadership to apprentice.
We operate as a fully accredited contractor, with certifications that demonstrate our commitment to industry-recognised standards in quality, health and safety, and environmental management.
Having been established in 1978, we have a wealth of industry experience. A look at our history is shown below:

We have a cross-functional Health & Safety Committee made up of leadership, managers, supervisors and workforce representatives. The committee meets regularly to:
Review performance data and near misses
Discuss workforce feedback and suggestions
Monitor implementation of H&S initiatives
Share learning from incidents and best practice
McL&H have engaged HBP since 2019 to complete both subcontracted measured works and plant and labour supply on our Devonshire Dock Quay Project at BAE Systems in Barrow-in-Furness. To date HBP have proven to be a valuable member of the supply chain and have been integral to the successful completion of groundworks on the project. HBP have managed excavations, heavy demolition and material supply in line with the contract programme.
HBP have always maintained a customer focused attitude and always been adaptable and responsive to our business needs. I’d have no hesitation in recommending HBP for any civil engineering and groundworks contracts.
By maintaining direct control over our labour, plant, and logistics operations, we ensure greater consistency, cost efficiency, and accountability throughout every phase of a project. This allows us to respond quickly to changing site conditions, minimise risk and external reliance and uphold the high standards our clients expect.
Our long-term vision is to remain a reliable, agile, and forward-thinking delivery partner trusted by contractors and clients and continue to build a resilient and respected business that creates long-term value for our clients, our communities, and future generations through sustainability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
As a family-run SME, we are committed to delivering more than just infrastructure. Our vision is to grow with purpose, by:
We aim to be a partner of choice, known not just for the quality of our work, but for the values we bring and the difference we make.
HBP’s commitment to Health, Safety, Environment and Quality is reflected with our numerous accreditations. We have secured and retained many accreditations such as ISO, Achilles, CHAS and SafeContractor which now form an important part in the success of our business.
Our drainage project on our Africa paddock had to be carried out swiftly and efficiently to firstly not just get the job done but to give our zebra, wildebeest and white rhino access back outside as soon as possible, HBP were an integral part of the project and the end result – a wonderful – hopefully mud and water free – hard stand for our African residents to enjoy all year round.
Harry Barker Properties is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050. This target is set in alignment with the SBTi’s corporate Net Zero standard.
